Frame 1.3 – Preview

Sami Maisniemi - Friday, November 13, 2009

The development of Frame 1.3 has been started. We have decided to focus on improving the existing features instead of adding any new features. We cannot provide any detailed time schedule, but the update will be available before the new year. The purpose of the update is to increase usability and quality.

We intend to improve the graphical user interface and especially the plots. The vignetting analysis will be redesigned and new 2D plots will be added. The flexibility of the parser of the reference files will be improved, because the interpretations of the ANSI IT 8.7 standard vary remarkably depending on the vendor. The new parser will deliver wider support for reference files.

We also intend to release a free Lite version and perhaps a Linux version. The features of the Lite version and the Linux version will be defined later.

Frame 1.2

Sami Maisniemi - Friday, October 30, 2009

Frame 1.2 is available! The update includes several remarkable additions and improvements. The update adds the support for reference files in CSV and ANSI IT 8.7 compatible format. The support for the reference files allows both the users and the vendors of the test charts to define the references of the test chart in RGB, XYZ, and LAB color spaces.

We have also released the first patch, which includes some bug fixes for the reports. The update is free of charge for the existing users. The new users can download the 14-day free trial prior to purchase. The price of a single user license is 99€.

Frame 1.1 – Preview

Sami Maisniemi - Monday, August 3, 2009

The update is almost ready. The final tests required a little bit more time than we estimated, but Frame 1.1 will become available within the couple weeks. The update includes several major new features and additions and modifications to the existing features.

1. OECF Analysis

The update enables OECF (Opto-Electronic Conversion Function) analysis which can be applied to step charts. Frame 1.1 will support ISO 14524, Kodak Q-13 and Q-14, and Stouffer step charts. The implementation of the OECF analysis is based on ISO 14524 standard.

2. New Step and Color Charts

The update adds support for multiple color charts including Wolf Faust IT8.7, HutchColor HCT, and QPcard 101/102/201 color charts. The update adds also support for multiple step charts including ISO 14524, Kodak Q-13 and Q-14, and Stouffer step charts. The update includes also the references for Wolf Faust IT8.7, Kodak Q-60, and HutchColor HCT color charts.

3. Resolution Analysis

The new improved resolution analysis enables also chromatic aberration (CA) analysis.

Frame 1.1 – New Features and Time Schedule

Sami Maisniemi - Sunday, July 5, 2009

The first version of Frame was a great success. There were +2,000 downloads within a few weeks of the release. The feedback has been generally very positive. We intend to release the first major update within the next few weeks.

The next version will include support for Wolf Faust IT8.7, HutchColor HCT, and QPcard 101/102/201 charts. The next version also includes opto-electronic conversion function (OECF) and chromatic aberration analysis. The new tests are based on ISO 14524 and ISO 15795 standards.

It seems that the resolution analysis of the current version includes a critical bug. As a consequence, the results can be consufing. The next version will include a bug fix. We apologize for the inconvenience that we may have caused.

The international imaging industry association (I3A) is a standardization organization which is developing a new standard for measuring image quality of camera phones. The standard is developed by the camera phone image quality (CPIQ) group.

Unfortunately the most of the downloads of I3A are not available free of charge, but CPIQ 1.0 white paper (the first phase of the standardization) is available free of charge. The white paper includes some important information which can be applied to all kind of imaging devices. We can recommend the white paper to all who are interested in measuring image quality of imaging devices.
