Frame 1.3

Sami Maisniemi - Monday, January 18, 2010

Frame 1.3 was released for a while ago. The release was once again a few weeks late, because we found some critical bugs just before the release. As a consequence, we have decided to change the development methodology. In the future we will release frequent updates. The version control will be modified accordingly. The new methodology allows us to release new features after they have been fully tested without relying on artificial time schedules. We believe that the new methodology helps us to deliver new features within reasonable time without compromising quality.

Frame 1.3 includes several additions and modifications. For example, the support for the reference files has been extended and the user can create custom color charts. However, the most remarkable change is related to the licensing of the application. Frame Essentials includes all the features and the price of the license is 99€. Frame Lite includes all the tests and the most common test charts, but the license is free. We believe that Frame Lite will be a great success among the hobbyists who need an affordable method to test any kind of imaging devices from scanners to cameras. We promote all the hobbyists to test the application and to send feedback and comments, which help us to develop the application.

The final tests of Frame 1.3 are ongoing and the release will be made within the next few days. The Linux version is also ready, but we intend make some additional tests to guarantee compatibility with the most common Linux distributions.

Frame 1.3 Lite

Sami Maisniemi - Saturday, November 28, 2009

We have defined the features of the Lite version of Frame. The Lite version includes the support for all ColorChecker compatible color charts, all generic white and gray balance cards, and all ISO 12233 compatible resolution charts. The user can create reference files or use reference files provided by a vendor in CSV and ANSI IT 8.7 compatible formats.

However, the Lite version does not include any other test charts and reporting and exporting tools. The Lite version will be available for all platforms. We promote all the users to send feedback and comments, which will help us to develop Frame.

Sami Maisniemi - Saturday, November 21, 2009

Kate Labs Frame for Linux
We have been developing the Linux version of Frame for a while. The features of the Linux version will be identical to the features of the Mac OS X and Windows versions. We intend to support KDE and Gnome desktop environments and all most common Linux distributions. The Beta testing program will start a couple weeks after Frame 1.3 has been released for Mac OS X and Windows. The Beta testing program continues as long as it is necessary.

Frame 1.3 – Preview

Sami Maisniemi - Friday, November 13, 2009

The development of Frame 1.3 has been started. We have decided to focus on improving the existing features instead of adding any new features. We cannot provide any detailed time schedule, but the update will be available before the new year. The purpose of the update is to increase usability and quality.

We intend to improve the graphical user interface and especially the plots. The vignetting analysis will be redesigned and new 2D plots will be added. The flexibility of the parser of the reference files will be improved, because the interpretations of the ANSI IT 8.7 standard vary remarkably depending on the vendor. The new parser will deliver wider support for reference files.

We also intend to release a free Lite version and perhaps a Linux version. The features of the Lite version and the Linux version will be defined later.
