3.3 Color Accuracy

The color accuracy test can be applied to all color charts.

- Select the test chart.
- Select the test (Color Analysis).
- Open the test image.
- Click Analyse.

The color accuracy test computes also the correlated color temperature (CCT).

The color accuracy test computes the results and the references of the samples and the errors in RGB, XYZ, and LAB color spaces. The color accuracy test enables also analysis of the color differences based on CIE76, CIE94, and CIEDE2000 algorithms. If the reference file is not available the color accuracy test computes only the results.

The luminance error ΔL does not have any effect on the color errors Δa and Δb or the chroma error ΔC, but the luminance error has effect on the color errors based on CIE76, CIE94, and CIEDE2000 algorithms. For further details of the CIE color error algorithms, please see the CIE standards.

The results, references, and errors in the RGB color space are expressed in 24-bit colors. The results, references, and errors, errors in XYZ and LAB color spaces are expressed in absolute values.

The results might vary remarkably between different samples depending on the characteristics and the settings of the device and the circumstances. Especially the error of the correlated color temperature has remarkable effect on the results. Note that the color errors or the color differences cannot be analysed if the reference file of the test chart is not available. In this case the color accuracy test can be applied only to the results. For further details of the reference files, please see chapter 4.

The color accuracy test draws always the plot of the LAB color space, which includes the results and references of the samples. The results are marked with white circles and the references are marked with black circles. The distance between the result and the reference is equivalent to the chroma error. If the reference file is not available, the plot includes only the results.

If the reference file is available, the color accuracy test draws also the plots of the RGB and XYZ spaces, which include the errors of the channels. The plot of the RGB color space includes the errors of R (red), G (green), and B (blue) channels and the plot of the XYZ color space includes the errors of X (red), Y (orange), and Z (yellow).
